This recipe came from the Dunkerton, Iowa, First Baptist Church Cookbook – 1932.
1 1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. butter
2 egg yolks
1 C. lukewarm water
2 C. flour
2 T. burnt sugar*
2 egg whites, beaten
1 1/2 C. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
